    Amir Temur (Tamerlan) Square
    The history of the square in the center of Tashkent named after Amir Temur, the commander and founder of a huge medieval empire, began as early as in the XIX century, when Tashkent was the center of the Turkestan Military Command, composing the Russian Empire.

    Independence Square
    Independence Square is located in the center of Tashkent city. It is a favourite resting place for
    the Tashkent residents. In the Soviet time the square was re-named for Lenin Square. A monument to Lenin was erected in the centre of it. And construction of fountains and
    development of the square itself began at this period.

    Monument of Courage
    The monument was built in 1976 to the 10-th anniversary of the terrible earthquake that
    destroyed almost half of the city. On 26 April 1966, at 5:24 a.m., an earthquake with a magnitude of 8.3 shook the city. Builders from all over the former USSR participated in the reconstruction of Tashkent.

    Hazreti-Imam is a symbolic place not only for Tashkent but also for the world’s culture. It contains the most famous Koran in the world - the Ottoman Koran. It was the Ottoman Koran that all subsequent copies of the Holy Book of Muslims were made from.
